Current Health/Status: Slightly banged up after a bar fight, but otherwise in pretty peak physical condition. Does 8 mile runs daily, just left the army, and dances at a club for a living. Mentally he's at the beginning of an undiagnosed bi-polar decline and very erratic.

***Personality: Ian is greatly influenced, as anyone, by his parents and his upbringing. With a generally absent bipolar mother and a narcissistic alcoholic father, he was raised primarily by his older sister and it's really no wonder that Ian spent the better part of his childhood desperately trying not to be like either one of his parents. His primary means of attempting this was to throw himself fully into ROTC, devoting himself to the goal of becoming a military officer which to him felt like the best possible way to not only escape where he came from, but to be nothing like his parents. He also consistently held down a job and did his best in school, despite not being especially book smart.

He's also someone who desperately wants to be connected, so as a result he enters into unhealthy relationship after unhealthy relationship from the time he's 15. Mostly with men much older than him who fill a need for sex and attention - including his boss, Kash, with whom he carries on a secret sexual relationship behind the back of his wife, and Ned, a 60 something wealthy gentleman who's also hiding their relationship from his wife. Both closeted. So it's no surprise that when he starts messing around with someone his own age, Mickey Milkovich, for the first time, he becomes instantly attached despite the constant upward battle of getting him to care openly back. He loves the idea of being in love, something he's never really seen in a healthy way in his real life, and something he somewhat idealizes. He wants to be in a relationship that's public with someone he's in love with, and at least some part of him wants a storybook level of domestic bliss (as evidenced by hallucinated visions, and throwing himself fully into a caregiver roll to Mickey's child later in the series). So when this early-stage relationship goes sour when Mickey gets married, and he realizes it's going to be more of exactly the same things he's done time and time again, where he's in a secret relationship with a married man, he steals his brother's ID and joins the army at 17.

While rash, the choice was made with a relatively cool head, but unfortunately once gone he starts to display signs of his mother's bipolar, wreaking some small havoc on his base before going AWOL. This starts the beginning of where he is at his current game-canon place, of having pretty extreme ups and downs with short spurts of calm lucidity. While his general personality is very even keel and thoughtful, he's started to show signs of mania, which put a strain on everyone around him as he refuses to accept that he's bipolar like his mother, which is his most motivating fear. So accepting it, to him, would be accepting that he'll never amount to more that his generally out of control and unmedicated mother. So instead of allowing himself to be medicated, and healthier, in his manic mind he just desperately tries to power his way though it by force of will. Nothing scares him more than feeling like he'll never be more than his parents, or that he's incapable of being loved due to mental illness. He'd rather pretend the illness isn't there at all.

Despite being pretty lawful good on the surface, and certainly more so in his youth, he lives in much more of a grey area now. While he absolutely believes in basic street rules like 'don't snitch' and 'take care of your own', he's certainly not beyond criminal activity to survive in the ways he once was, especially during his more manic episodes. He worked at a club for a while once he came back from the Army, and while technically a bartender and dancer he also did sex work on the side. Fueled greatly by mania and club drugs, it was also the one thing he's always been able to count on - being attractive to men who want to spend money on him and fuck him secretly. He simply decided to cash in on it when he needed it to survive, legality completely aside. Ultimately, you take care of yourself and those you love whatever the cost.

Ian is the 3rd oldest of 6 siblings, and in many ways is the quintessential middle child. Too old to be allowed to be a dumb kid, and too young to be allowed to make definitive family decisions. While his relationship to his older sister Fiona is generally a good one, he's often in a position where he feels the need to hide the less functional parts of his life (like his relationships with older men), to maintain his position as a responsible 'older' sibling - but they can also tend to end up at odds if Fiona doesn't listen to him, take him seriously, or he feels condescended to due to still being young. Ian is a proud person, and it's hard for him to accept any situation where he doesn't feel respected on his terms.

His relationship with his older brother Lip on the other hand is very open and honest, with Lip being less than a year older and in most cases his best and most trusted friend, confiding in him before almost anyone else. Due to age differences, he's generally less close to his younger siblings, though he's a trustworthy and protective older brother, pulling his weight to make sure they're taken care of.

Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping: Nothing super human! He's in great physical condition, military trained, and can hold his own in pretty much any fight against another human, but no powers of any kind.
